Advanced Concepts of Theoretical Physics

Course description

This course complements the Quantum Field Theory lectures and the Theoretical Exercises by providing the foundations necessary for understanding the Standard Model of particle physics and for preparing a Master’s thesis across a broad range of possibilities, ranging from statistical and condensed matter physics all the way to particle and mathematical physics. The main topics covered include:

  • Path integral (in quantum mechanics, statistical physics, and field theory)
  • Symmetries and group theory (discrete and Lie groups, representations)
  • Solitons and instantons in gauge theory
